On August 12, South Africa officially launched its Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system, allowing travelers from China, India, Indonesia, and Mexico to apply for entry permits online .

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa attended the ETA system launch ceremony at Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport and announced the system's official go-live. Ramaphosa stated that this digital system will make travel to South Africa more convenient, faster, and more predictable, while further strengthening border security.

Under the new system, eligible travelers no longer need to visit South African embassies, consulates, or visa centers abroad; they can apply for entry permits online from anywhere in the world. Approved applicants are expected to receive their electronic authorization within 24 hours .
