In order to advocate for the conservation and development of mountain tourism resources, promote and publicize high-quality mountain tourism destinations, present their features, potentials and underlying values, and facilitate the sustainable deployment of the natural and cultural resources of the mountains, International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) launched the "World Famous Tourism Mountains" certification initiative in 2024 following the "Certification Criteria of World Famous Tourism Mountains" formulated by IMTA. Multiple mountain tourism destination management institutions actively applied for certification. After rigorous sifting and appraisal, 14 mountains were certified as the first group of "World Famous Tourism Mountains", including the Jungfrau (Switzerland), Annapurna (Nepal), Table Mountain (South Africa), Changbai Mountain and Fanjing Mountain (China), etc.
The IMTA is now calling for applications for the new group of "World Famous Tourism Mountains".
Key information of the call is as belows:
• Qualified Applicants: Mountain tourism destination management institutions worldwide.
• Certification Process: The IMTA Secretariat will gather experts to conduct sifting, scrutiny, and certification in accordance with the Certification Criteria.
• Result Announcement: Successfully certified applicants will be officially announced and awarded as “World Famous Tourism Mountains” at the "IMTA Annual Conference 2025" in Guizhou, China, in November 11-13, with global promotion offered through IMTA’s dissemination channels and media partners.
Benefits of Successful Certification:
• Representatives from mountain tourism destination management institutions will be invited to attend the awarding ceremony as part of the main activities of the "IMTA Annual Conference 2025", as well as participate in supporting activities to visit Guizhou's mountain tourism resources, with opportunities to exchange ideas with elite mountain practitioners from around the world.
• IMTA will leverage its international platforms and strong media resources for extensive coverage, and promote the tourism characteristics and resources of the certified mountains.
• Establishing good relations with IMTA and the industry, opening up opportunities for more exchanges and cooperation, and being invited to participate in more large-scale international events hosted by IMTA in the future (such as the “International Mountain Tourism Day” every May).

• Submit the "World Famous Tourism Mountains" Application Form via email at: dengsj@imtaweb.org.
• Government Support Certificate: Applicants are kindly requested to provide a supporting letter issued by the local government tourism authority.
• Application Deadline: October 14, 2025.
• No fees will be charged throughout the application and certification process.
