In 2021, the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) led the compilation of the International Guidebook for the Development of Hiking, providing technical guidance and practical reference for mountain tourism destinations developing hiking products. Based on the Guidebook, IMTA has certified 20 "IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Routes" worldwide, including the Chamonix Part of the Tour du Mont Blanc (France), the Lord of the Hiking Routes (New Zealand), the Pingxiang Wugong Mountain Outdoor Hiking Route (China), and the Xingyi Wanfenglin Hiking Route (China). The certification initiative have stimulated vitality and innovation in the global mountain hiking tourism market, garnering widespread attention and positive responses from society and the industry.
Certifing "IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Routes" helps advocate for the scientific and rational development and utilization of mountain resources under the premise of strictly protecting mountain ecosystems, historical and cultural heritage. This initiative aims to select and promote safe, unique, comfortable, and high-quality route options with in-depth cultural or natural experiences for global hiking enthusiasts.
The IMTA now calls globally for submissions for a new group of "IMTA International Mountain Hiking Tourism Demonstration Routes". Relevant institutions are warmly welcomed to actively participate in the application. The IMTA Secretariat will organize experts to screen, review, and certify the submitted hiking routes. The certified routes will be officially announced and awarded at the “IMTA Annual Conference 2025” scheduled for mid-November 2025.
Institutions interested in participating in this certification initiative are kindly requested to submit the Application Form (Annex 3) to the IMTA Secretariat (Email:panky@imtaweb.org) by September 30, 2025.
