On January 14, the Secretariat of the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) held discussions with Carlos Vélez, China Affairs Representative of the Government of Gran Canaria, Spain, and his delegation regarding preparations for the 2025 International Mountain Tourism Day (IMTD) thematic events.
IMTA Vice President and Executive Secretary-General Fu Yinchun outlined the development of the IMTD brand and its impact in promoting mountain tourism, emphasizing the significance of hosting the 2025 event in Gran Canaria. He expressed the IMTA’s anticipation for collaborating with Gran Canaria to deliver a groundbreaking IMTD celebration, highlighting that with support from China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Guizhou Provincial Government, Spanish tourism authorities, and collaborative efforts between both organizing teams, the 2025 IMTD will aim to foster cultural inclusivity, mutual learning between civilizations, and tourism exchange. The event will be curated as an innovative, internationally influential mountain cultural and tourism festival with distinct themes and unique features.
Carlos Vélez introduced Gran Canaria’s mild climate, stunning natural landscapes, and abundant mountain tourism resources, as well as its extensive experience and advantages in hosting international visitors and conferences. He detailed the facilities, services, and capacities available to support the IMTD event.
IMTA Secretariat departments and the Gran Canaria delegation conducted in-depth discussions on event planning, organizational execution, conference preparation, guest invitation and reception, and division of responsibilities.
