Wu Bihu, director of the Center for Retreation and Tourism Research and an IMTA expert, stated that the recognition of these world-famous mountains will further promote the protection and utilization of mountain tourism resources and actively contribute to the establishment of a global mountain tourism governance system. Based on this research, the International Mountain Tourism Alliance has proposed the basic conditions that a "world famous mountain" must meet, including natural resources, cultural resources, and comprehensive supporting services, based on the classification of "nature-oriented" and "culture-oriented" mountain tourism. The "Certification Criteria of World Famous Tourism Mountains" have been formed in combination with the development trend of mountain tourism industry.
The "World Famous Tourist Mountains - Identification Standards" includes five natural-oriented identification standards and eight culture-oriented identification standards. At the same time, in terms of comprehensive supporting services, specific requirements are also proposed for hardware facilities, software services, operation management, and market evaluation. The "Guidelines for the Recognition of World Famous Tourist Mountains" includes the relevant organizations and their responsibilities for the recognition work, encouragement and support for world famous tourist mountains, and the procedures for applying for inclusion in the "World Famous Tourist Mountains List", including five steps: pre-application, pre-recognition, formal application, submission of application materials, and decision by the recognition committee.
