It is with great pleasure that I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the 2024 International Mountain Tourism & Outdoor Sports Conference and the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA) 2024 Annual Conference in Xingyi, Guizhou, China.
This annual event serves as a significant platform, not only for the Chinese mountain tourism sector but also for the global tourism community. Its timing is especially critical as we continue to witness the growing importance of sustainable development in mountain tourism. This year’s theme, focused on the construction and innovation of mountain tourism governance systems, reflects the forward-thinking approach needed in today's rapidly evolving tourism landscape.
UN Tourism greatly values its enduring partnership with the International Mountain Tourism Alliance, which has played an instrumental role in promoting sustainable tourism practices in mountain regions worldwide. IMTA’s continued efforts have enhanced cultural diversity and environmental leadership, while contributing to local economic growth through inclusive and sustainable development practices.
Looking ahead, I am confident that our collaborative efforts will further strengthen, particularly in advancing new governance models, promoting ecological sustainability, and contributing to the revitalization of rural communities through mountain tourism. The commitment of IMTA to these causes resonates strongly with the vision and mission of UN Tourism.
Please accept my best wishes for a successful and productive conference, and rest assured of UN Tourism’s continued support and collaboration in fostering the sustainable development of mountain tourism globally.
