A Cool Guiyang is Waiting for You

On 18th August, the 2022 Asian Mountain Tourism Promotion Conference with the theme of Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefit, Inclusiveness, Cooperation, and Sharing —— Jointly Building a New Future for Asian Mountain Tourism was officially launched in Guiyang, Guizhou province. During the conference, Long Cong, the vice mayor of the People’s Government of Guiyang, Guizhou province, introduced its cultural and tourism resources.

A Chinese poet once said rivers abound in the southern parts of China, while mountains in Guizhou province. Guiyang has always been known as a summer resort in China and is endowed with unique cultural and tourism resources, various forms of mountains and the traditional Yangming culture. Guiyang enjoys particular mountain resources and diversified national culture with multiple ethnic groups living harmoniously. In Guiyang, nature and human activities complement each other, traditions and modern practices integrate perfectly, and development and ecology co-exist harmoniously. You will be immersed in a satisfactory journey in Guiyang, physically, mentally, visually, or regarding food, shopping, and sightseeing. You will be rewarded with a spectacular experience in a cool Guiyang.

A cool Guiyang makes one feel physically refreshed and relaxed. In Guiyang, the summertime is not characterized by blazing sunshine but cool breeze which soaks into every pore of your body so that it feels like you are under the shade of a dense forest or in the middle of an empty mountain valley with natural air conditioner and ecological oxygen bar. With a latitude of 26 degrees north and an average altitude of 1,100 meters, the best combination, creating the most beautiful scenery and the most habitable environment on earth. An average summer temperature of 22.3 degrees Celsius and relative humidity of 76% to 79% allow the human body to function benignly and the vitality of the body to flourish. A concentration of over 10,000 negative oxygen ions per cubic centimeter and an average wind speed of fewer than 3 meters per second allow people to immerse themselves in a sea of oxygen. The six extraordinary aspects have given birth to this unique recreational resort and made Guiyang famous as a summer resort in China and abroad.
A cool Guiyang makes one feel mentally refreshed and relaxed. One thousand two hundred years ago, Kaiyang county first began to unearth cinnabar in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and gradually became a significant cinnabar production place in China, adding a “China red” to its civilization. Around a thousand years ago, in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), Qingyan Town became an important artery for trade and commerce, where numerous legendary stories and histories resonated with us amid the sounds of horses' bells. Six hundred years ago when the female Shuidong Tusi Liu Shuzhen traveled 4000 miles riding on a horse to Nanjing, the capital of the Ming Dynasty, to meet Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor, in an effort to solve the crisis of war in the southwestern frontier, thus leaving behind a thousand-year-old story of national unity and progress. About five hundred years ago, Wang Yangming once meditated on his philosophical thoughts and set up schools to teach civil values in Xiuwen county, where he put forward the thought that knowledge and action exist in harmony, marking the first time Chinese philosophical thoughts underwent great changes in history and becoming the foundation of cultural spirit of Guiyang. Over the past hundred years, countless heroes and heroines in Qianzhong have "given up their lives to bring safety and stability to society", and their sacrifices have profoundly changed the country. The former site of the Guizhou Provincial Work Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Memorial Hall of the Revolutionary History of Xifeng Concentration Camp, and the Baiyi Red Army Martyrs' Cemetery are dotted with red landmarks that shine brightly, leaving the people of Guiyang with a strong sense of patriotism. Sixty years ago, the third front builders, who "opened up the railway connecting the precipitous cliffs and transformed the lofty mountains and the perilous waters", spent their youths expressing their patriotic sentiments and cultivating the spirit of following the original hearts and pursuing hard work. Throughout the ages, the deep historical roots and humanistic spirit have nourished the sons and daughters living in the land of Guiyang, Guizhou province, creating the spirit of "the harmonious of knowledge and action-striving hard for the first place", which is everlasting and enduring.
A cool Guiyang is a feast on the eyes. Mountains and rivers abound in the diversified landscape of Guiyang. Among the 7309 tourism spots scattered in the region, one national 5A tourism destination and 22 4A tourism attractions are drawing visitors around the world. The 1000 kilometers long walk path connecting the villages, rural areas, over 1100 square kilometers of ecological waters, and above 1000 parks covering the whole city have gained Guiyang the name of “Thousand Parks” and “the City of Gardens”. Flowers blossom and water keeps running in Huaxi all the year, caves with mountains and rivers look so natural in Tianhe Tan, the Nanjiang canyon makes one feel like being in the Karst, and the Taoyuan River drifting provides visitors with an adventurous experience while spending summer time in a valley.
A cool Guiyang is a feast on the mouth. Guiyang, a mysterious and independent place with its reserved flavor is also a culinary museum that brings together representative delicacies from China, where the mountain city and the meaning of human feelings are intertwined. Spicy and sour tastes collide with the softness of freshness, creating a melting pot. Spicy is the backbone of Guiyang's cuisine. Spicy chilies, chili paste, oily chilies, roasted chilies, and patty chilies are all made to your satisfaction, while spicy chicken, spicy and crispy duck, and the world-famous "Lao Gan Ma", have become a source of nostalgia for countless travelers. There are hundreds of snack foods in Guiyang, including intestine noodles, beef noodles, and glutinous rice noodles, which wake up our sleepy taste buds every morning; refreshing vegetable spring rolls and hot bean curds are waiting for the gourmets at every stall; hot rice cakes and rice noodles and cold rose ice noodles surprise those tired people on every street corner. Spicy, sour, new, and fresh can all be found here in the hustle and bustle of the night market where the city's "thousands of stalls are in business".
