Editor’s Note
On 29 May, the 2022 International Mountain Tourism Day theme event was held online and themed on “Mountain Tourism Promotes Healthy Life and Cultural Exchange”. The event motivated the New Media network, connected IMTA members, destination agencies, enterprises, and experts from all over the world, and carried out “cloud communication, dialogue, and presentation” around three chapters — “Focus · Mountain”, “Health · Life”, and “Civilization · Communication”. Against the complex global landscape and threat from COVID-19, the event helps create a healthier and more positive atmosphere and market for mountain tourism, promote cultural exchange, friendly communication, and mutual integration among countries, to jointly prepare, build, and share a bright future of mountain tourism. At the event, Archil Kalandia, Ambassador of Georgia to China, delivered a speech.
Facing the Booming Mountain Tourism Demand,
only those Willing to Cooperate and Share can Achieve Win-Win Results
I'm Archil Kalandia, Ambassador of Georgia to China.First of all, I would like to greet all participants of the International Mountain Tourism Day Conference.
Mountain tourism constitutes all activities that tourists undertake while visiting mountainous regions. In the winter, this primarily means skiing or snowboarding, while in summer it can include hiking, mountain-biking, horse-trekking, etc. In this regard, such pursuits have been growing in Georgia. I'm pleased to mention that in recent years, the number of travelers visiting Georgia's ski resorts has increased by 800 percent.
Besides, Georgia aims to host a variety of international championships for winter sports. In this regard, I would like to mention that in 2023, Georgia and Bakuriani, which is a famous ski resort in Georgia will host the Ski and Snowboarding Freestyle World Championships. Georgia is trying to develop its ski resorts in a way that boasts international standards.
I hope that in the post-pandemic period, the Georgian side will cooperate and will strengthen its partnership with the Chinese colleagues, and with the relevant tourism agencies all around the world to intensify our win-win cooperation and concrete projects.
As the end, once again, I would like to wish all participants of International Mountain Tourism Day Conference success and all the best. Thank you so much!
