The 2025 Tibet Autonomous Region “Green Consumption and Civilized Tourism” series of activities, hosted by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Tibet Autonomous Region, officially commenced in Lhasa on the 20th. Centered on the theme “Protecting Our Green Mountains and Clear Waters, Embracing Poetry and Distant Horizons Together,” the initiative aims to promote the coordinated development of the cultural and tourism industry with ecological conservation.

Xiao Chuanjiang, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region Party Committee and Party Secretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism, stated: "Tibet possesses profound and diverse cultural heritage, and its natural landscapes are truly unique. We must adhere to the principle of shaping tourism through culture and highlighting culture through tourism, achieving deep integration. By enriching tourism with cultural substance and elevating its sophistication, we will transform travel into an unforgettable spiritual and cultural journey. Through tourism, we will bring China's outstanding traditional culture to life, using tourism to drive dissemination, showcase cultural charm, and promote cultural prosperity. This will further transform Tibet's resource advantages, cultural strengths, and geographical positioning into competitive advantages, industrial strengths, and developmental opportunities, establishing Tibet as the nation's most desirable tourist destination. It will enable the people to better enjoy the beauty of nature, life, and living while exploring this sacred land and happy homeland."

Xiao Chuanjiang emphasized that Tibet's ecological environment is extremely fragile, with low resistance to disturbances and poor self-renewal capacity. Once damaged, it takes a long time to recover. We must firmly establish the concepts of green consumption and civilized tourism, and implement tailored measures based on location and timing. Strengthen ecological oversight of tourism operators, provide civilized tourism reminders, and treat all cultural and tourism activities as fundamental requirements for respecting, conforming to, and protecting nature. Minimize the disturbance and burden of tourism on Tibet's environment to the greatest extent possible, ensuring the preservation of its pristine natural ecology. This will enable visitors to tangibly, meaningfully, and effectively experience Tibet's rich cultural heritage and diverse natural wonders.

As a model of environmental stewardship rooted in the plateau, National Moral Exemplar Nima Tsering drew upon his experience in spearheading the establishment of the Nyangchu River Ecological Conservation Association to call upon all sectors of society to become practitioners of “leave-no-trace tourism,” promoters of “green consumption,” and disseminators of “civilized values.”

At the meeting, Luo Renjie, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Tibet Autonomous Region Department of Culture and Tourism, read out the “Green Consumption and Civilized Tourism” initiative. The event also featured a flag-presentation ceremony for the “Green Consumption and Civilized Tourism—Polishing the Sky Road” series of activities.
