China records 160 million border crossings in Q3, a 30.1% year-on-year rise

On October 18, China’s National Immigration Administration released key statistics for immigration management for the third quarter of 2024:

* China recorded 160 million border crossings during the quarter, reflecting a 30.1% year-on-year increase.

* 78.545 million crossings were made by mainland residents, 64.694 million by residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 16.461 million by foreign nationals, up 27.3%, 28.9% and 50.5% respectively.

At China’s ports of entry:

* Foreign nationals made 8.186 million entries, a 48.8% year-on-year increase, with 4.885 million of these being visa-free, marking a substantial 78.6% increase.

China issued:

* 5.987 million ordinary passports in Q3, a 28.5% year-on-year increase.

* 26.649 million travel documents for mainland residents heading to and from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, up 4.7% year-on-year.

* 807,000 visas to foreign nationals, a 32.7% increase compared to the previous year.
