On June 26, the official account of Lonely Planet Beijing Cultural Development Co., Ltd. announced that "due to the impact of the epidemic and the company's strategic adjustment, Lonely Planet has closed its China office and stopped publishing in China; all official social media accounts of Lonely Planet in China, including WeChat public account, Sina Weibo, Little Red Book, Zhihu, etc., have stopped updating."

According to the news, currently, the previously published Lonely Planet Chinese guidebooks can be purchased on various book trading platforms, but no new Chinese guidebooks will be released for the time being. The English version of the guidebooks and reading materials will continue to be produced and can be purchased at www.lonelyplanet.com.

According to the official account of the WeChat public number "Lonely Planet", "Lonely Planet has passed its 50th birthday, and the Lonely Planet China branch located in Dongcheng District, Beijing has also accompanied you for 10 years. Since 2013, Lonely Planet has published more than 300 Chinese travel guides and travel books in China, with a cumulative sales volume of millions of copies, inspiring and helping tens of millions of Chinese travelers to gain travel inspiration, independently develop strategies, plan their itineraries, gain in-depth understanding of the destination during their travels, and be brave enough to embrace the vastness and unknown."

Previously, the Chinese edition of Lonely Planet magazine had ceased publication in 2022.

On November 10, 2022, the official account of the WeChat public number "Lonely Planet Magazine" announced that "we regret to announce a sad decision: the December 2022 issue will be the last issue of the Chinese edition of Lonely Planet Magazine, and the magazine will officially cease publication next year."

The article said that the Chinese edition of Lonely Planet magazine has gone through 125 issues since its launch in August 2012. Starting from the London Olympics, in the past ten years, we have witnessed the reopening of scenic spots closed due to war and chaos, the growth of tourism driven by sports events, the establishment of emerging art museums and national parks, and the climax of various celebrations. Of course, we have also witnessed the slowdown and gradual recovery of tourism worldwide since the outbreak of the epidemic.

According to the official account of Lonely Planet on Weibo on November 14, 2022, Lonely Planet magazine is a monthly magazine authorized by the Lonely Planet brand, produced and distributed by China Map Publishing House. Due to various reasons such as the expiration of the contract, the magazine will be discontinued in China from next year. The original WeChat official account and Sina Weibo of Lonely Planet magazine will also be completely separated from the LP brand. However, Lonely Planet guide books will continue to be sold, and the Lonely Planet brand will continue to operate in China.
