During the five-day May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, China witnessed 1.36 billion cross-regional trips, averaging over 270 million daily, as per data from the Ministry of Transport.
Domestic travel experienced significant growth, evidenced by double-digit increases in per capita bookings and consumption. Outbound travel saw a remarkable three-fold surge compared to previous years, with Chinese tourists visiting destinations worldwide, including popular spots like Thailand and Japan.
According to the 2024 May Day Holiday Travel Summary released by Ctrip on Sunday, inbound and outbound tourism outpaced domestic tourism growth, with lower-tier markets showing faster growth than first- and second-tier markets.
