"According to the latest data from the United Nations World Tourism Organization, global international tourist arrivals have recovered to 80% of pre-COVID-19 levels in the first quarter of this year." Lorena Villar, an official of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, said at the 2023 China (Zhengzhou) International Tourism City Mayors Forum on the afternoon of the 4th that the current global tourism industry is picking up and showing its resilience.

On the same day, the 2023 China (Zhengzhou) International Tourism City Mayors Forum opened in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, and mayors and representatives from more than 100 cities from 26 countries including France, Italy, Russia, Egypt, Sri Lanka and Cambodia were invited to attend.

Under the theme of "Discovering new driving forces to promote Sustainable development of tourist cities", the participants discussed the problems and challenges faced by the development of tourist cities and shared successful experiences and cutting-edge practices to promote sustainable development of tourist cities.

Lorena Villar says tourism is recovering and may not fully recover until next year or later. She said a survey by the United Nations World Tourism Organization found that more than 80 percent of experts believe tourism will get better and better in the rest of 2023.

When it comes to promoting the recovery of the international tourism market, Dai Bin, president of the China Tourism Academy, believes that the international community generally believes that tourism is closely related to the global economy, society and public health. In the critical period of supporting tourism recovery and industrial development, the initiative of global civilization is implemented to build a world tourism community, which will stabilize consumption expectations and foster industrial innovation momentum. Reshaping the global travel supply chain has obvious implications.

Huang Shunhua, former president of the Asia Pacific Travel Association, said in his speech that there are many new trends in international tourism in 2023, and tourism in the Asia Pacific region is also continuing to recover, while also facing some new challenges. He suggested a balance between improving the quality of tourism and maintaining the quantity of tourism.

As an important international cultural tourism brand event jointly created by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and Henan Province, the China (Zhengzhou) International Tourism City Mayors Forum has been successfully held for seven sessions since 2008.
