Tourism Sweden 2023 will focus on the theme of "sustainable and close to nature" to let more people understand the Swedish way of life, including conscious and responsible travel, rural experience, and a journey closely connected with nature. Sweden's strategic goal is to become a "climate neutral" country by 2045. It is worth noting that Sweden has added a number of new tourism resources, some of which are easy to design innovative travel products and routes in the post-COVID-19 era.

New tourism resources help operators innovate product design

For example, the 5-meter tall Giant Golden Egg, a portable solar-powered sauna designed by Swedish designers Bigert & Bergstrom, will be open to the public free of charge at the Sara Cultural Center in the small town of Shelefteo in northern Sweden until the end of April. In the spring of 2024, for example, Gothenburg will launch a new Volvo brand experience center: Volvo World. On the site of the former Saab gearbox factory in the centre of Gothenburg, it has oversized glass Windows that absorb natural light and create a forest feel through the wooden frame. Shaped like a large tree with no right angles anywhere, the building is so unique that it has been certified by the National Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Medal and the U.S. International Healthy Building (WELL) Gold Medal. The centre is adjacent to the Ritherburn Amusement Park, one of the largest amusement parks in the Nordic region, with exhibitions, lectures, restaurants and meeting rooms, which will attract MICE as well as car enthusiasts when it opens.

The latest treehouse hotel, Biosphere, combines 340 bird houses with a spherical treehouse; Icehotel 33, a Swedish icehotel north of the Arctic Circle, is open until April; and Arctic Bath, a floating hotel in Lulea, northern Sweden, is still under construction, the tour operator added. And OceanSky, a Swedish company, plans to launch its first cruise ship in 2024, from Norway to the North Pole. While air cruises are billed as environmentally friendly because they are powered by hydrogen, cruise ships are all about luxury, with dedicated suites and chefs on board. The current price per ticket is $205,000.

In terms of activities, the 30th anniversary of World Water Day will be held on March 22, and visitors can kayak along the Dalsland Canal on Lake Wienarn, the largest in Sweden. Sweden's second largest lake, Lake Vitn, offers a variety of experiences, from short excursions on a steamboat to a floating sauna in the harbor. The Utter Inn, on Lake Malaren, Sweden's third largest lake, is a unique hotel built on a pier with bedrooms three metres below the water and panoramic views. From April 1 to 2, the small island of Herne in the western Archipelago of Sweden will hold Spring Festival celebrations, offering biking and hiking, sea cruises, seal Tours and seafood fishing, the most popular activity among Chinese tourists. Gothenburg will also celebrate its 400th birthday on June 2 with a series of events featuring music, dancing, food, historical retrospections and innovative experiences. Several local landmarks, such as the Ritherburn amusement Park, the Gothenburg Botanical Garden, the Gothenburg Art Museum, the Maritime Museum and the Aquarium, the Slottsskogsvallen Stadium, the Gothenburg Concert Hall and the Gothenburg Natural History Museum, will also celebrate their centenary.

According to Shanghai travel agents, the most popular holiday destinations for Chinese tourists in Sweden are Stockholm, Gothenburg, Smaland, Gotland, Harland, Western Sweden and Dalana. Tourism Sweden has invited international bestselling author John Ajvide Lindqvist to write a gripping fairy tale that will allow visitors to further explore the magical and alluring nature of the region. And Sweden, Norway, Finland just become the Golden Triangle of tourism, very suitable for creating northern Europe aurora tour. Abiscu, Sweden, is considered to be the world's easiest place to see the aurora, with stable weather, a small population and minimal exposure to light, as well as some of the cheapest flights and accommodation in northern Europe, as well as ice climbing for the daring.
