An Indonesian minister has said the country hopes to remove quarantine restrictions for all fully vaccinated visitors by 1 April at the latest.

Luhut Pandjaitan, a minister overseeing the Covid response in the resorts of Java and Bali, told a news conference that the rules would be relaxed across the country if a pilot in Bali went well.

Under the pilot, which began on 7 March, fully vaccinated tourists now can skip a mandatory three-day quarantine, though they need to remain on the island for four days.

Bali had opened to foreign tourists last October, but three-day quarantine and other rules remained in place, limiting demand.

Bali received 6.2 million visitors in 2019 and tourism normally makes up 50% of its economy, Reuters reports.
