While many hikers struggle to trek the highest mountain on the globe, it was just another 'pretty walk' for six-year-old Maya Bristow, who has become the youngest Australian to conquer the expedition.

The Cairns girl, who first travelled internationally when she was four-months-old, took the 19-day hike in her stride alongside proud parents Catherine Lawson and David Bristow.

The parents, who were in Nepal for work, had a few weeks to spare and turned the opportunistic moment into a Guinness World Record, with the young girl becoming the first Australian to trek Everest Base Camp unaided.

'It wasn't a goal of ours, it was one of those opportunities ... and Maya thrived on it,' Ms Lawson told Daily Mail Australia.

'We thought let's do it a couple of days and see if it's all going well and half way through we knew what was going to happen, it was not about setting a record.'

The adventurous youngster did not want to turn back once and kept 'plodding along' as she looked at flowers, wildlife and was treated with chocolates by passing hikers in May.

'She enjoyed the glaciers, mountains, bird life, the food and the yaks - she went a bit crazy about yaks,' the doting mother said.
