From June 30 to July 4, UNESCO Global Geopark evaluators Joanna Rodriguez and Hiroko Torigoe conducted an on-site assessment of Siguniang Mountain’s application to become a UNESCO Global Geopark. Over five days, the expert team carried out field inspections, reviewed supporting documentation, and scored the application. At the feedback session, the experts highly praised the proposed Siguniang Mountain UNESCO Global Geopark, noting that its internationally significant geological heritage, rich biodiversity, and unique Jiarong Tibetan culture left a profound impression. They affirmed that the park fully embodies the concepts and vision of a UNESCO Global Geopark in terms of geological heritage protection, construction management, scientific education, and regional development. Additionally, the two experts provided guidance and suggestions for the park’s further development. Since the application process began in 2022, the Siguniang Mountain Administration, in collaboration with the Sichuan Geophysical Survey Institute, has completed systematic surveys of geological heritage and prepared the application materials. In 2024, the park received high scores in the evaluation by China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration and was listed as a candidate for UNESCO Global Geopark status in China.
