Inbound tourist arrivals to Chongqing surged by 77.2% year-on-year in the first half of the year, with cultural and tourism consumption emerging as a key growth driver

On August 27th, at the press conference celebrating the fourth anniversary of Chongqing's efforts to build itself into an international consumer center city, a relevant official from the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development stated that in the first half of this year, the city received 8.6% more domestic tourists than in the same period of the previous year, and the spending of these domestic tourists increased by 11.9% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the number of inbound tourists also increased by 77.2% compared to the previous year, and their spending rose by 90.2% year-on-year. Cultural and tourism consumption has thus become an important driving force for Chongqing’s development as an international consumer center city.
