Trip.com released its travel data report for the 2022 New Year’s Day holiday on Monday. Data shows that the first holiday of the new year showed short-distance trips are still the main choice for users, despite current domestic epidemic prevention and control measures. Nearly 60% of provincial travel orders were placed.
The number of short-distance trips increased by 238% compared with New Year’s Day in 2020. Among the provincial travel orders, hotel orders increased by over 70% compared with 2020.
The report also shows the trends of the main age group of travelers and their choice of activities. Young users born after 1995 and 2000 preferred to travel by train and to combine travel with social needs and activities.
This young age group mostly booked train tickets through the Trip.com platform with the top 5 destinations being Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Hangzhou.
According to the report, Nanjing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Changsha and other new first-tier cities occupied half of the seats in the top ten popular destinations around China on New Year’s Day.
