Baoshan Stone City is located in Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, situated within the Jinsha River Gorge to the northeast of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It was built on a raised, naturally mushroom-shaped rock. Taking advantage of the terrain, a complete defense system was constructed, earning it the name "Stone City."

Baoshan Stone City consists of an inner and outer city. Inside the city, the residential buildings are typical examples of the Naxi ethnic group's wooden and tiled houses, making it a representative instance for studying the formation and development of traditional Naxi villages. Its construction dates back to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368).
