The Basom Scenic Area is about 18 kilometers long, the lake area is about 27 square kilometers, the deepest point is 120 meters, and the lake is 3480 meters above sea level. It is the lowest lake in Tibet (Namutuo is 4730 meters above sea level, and Yamdrok Lake is 4440 meters above sea level).

The scenic area is densely forested, and the oxygen content is higher than that of other lakes, so altitude sickness is generally not caused. Integrating snow-capped mountains, lakes, forests, waterfalls, pastures, cultural relics, historical sites, and ancient temples, the scenery is unique and the four seasons are different. The collection of famous wild and rare plants makes it a paradise on earth and has the reputation of "Little Switzerland". Basom is located in the deep valley of Gaoxia in the upper reaches of Bahe River, about 36 kilometers away from Bahe Town, Gongbujiangda County, Nyingchi City, 120 kilometers away from Bayi Town and 360 kilometers away from Lhasa City. It is a famous sacred lake and holy place of the Red Sect (Ningma Sect of Tibetan Buddhism).

Unlike other sacred lakes in Tibet, Basom is completely surrounded by lush virgin forests. True to its name, Basom Lake is green, the kind of green without impurities like a faint jade. The lake is so clear that you can see fish swimming in groups two or three meters below. Surrounded by green hills, the peak is snow that never melts all year round. The snow-capped mountains by the lake and the snow-capped mountains reflected on the lake are entangled with each other, endless, very spectacular! The most rare thing is that very few people have come here, completely isolated from the world.
